News: The Audemars Piguet X Marvel Collaboration – Watches And Wonders 2021
A few weeks back, Audemars Piguet teased a collaboration with Marvel. Most thought it to be a rumour, or even a joke—but boy were they wrong. Introducing the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Black Panther Flying Tourbillon—and no, it’s not made from Vibranium.
Instead, this Royal Oak Concept is made from titanium—the closest thing we have to the fictitious Vibranium. The watch is 42mm in size, features a sandblasted and satin-brushed case—with a ceramic bezel for good measure—and is decorated in the colours of the Black Panther: black, grey and purple.
Taking a closer look at the dial, and not only can you see King T'Challa himself dominate the space, but a futuristic-looking Flying Tourbillon too—because don’t forget, this isn’t your regular ol’ collab, this is an Audemars Piguet collab.
Flipping over the watch reveals a closer look at the inner workings of the Calibre 2965. The hand-wound calibre features an “AP” branded flying tourbillon, a 21,600 vph beat rate and a power reserve of 72 hours.
This might be one of the weirdest looking watches I’ve seen released this year, but I have no doubt that fans of the Black Panther are going to love it. The futuristic design of the Royal Oak Concept—along with the use of titanium and a flying tourbillon—makes this watch look as if it came straight from Wakanda itself.
